Being “out” in the corporate world can feel scary, and the current political climate, including the record number of anti-LGBTQ bills that have been filed, doesn’t help.
As a career coach, queer person, and active member of the Gay Coaches Alliance, I’m constantly on the search for resources that can empower fellow LGBTQ+ professionals to find a sense of belonging in the workplace.
A good starting point can be to build a list of target companies that are LGBTQ-friendly and welcoming, regardless of whether you’re “out” at work. As you develop this list, it can be helpful to visit the top LGBTQ+ job sites to get a sense of who is hiring and for what types of roles.
7 Best Job Boards For LGBTQ+ Professionals
As a career coach who specializes in the tech industry, Out In Tech is one of the first job search engines I refer fellow members of the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer) community to.
According to its website, “Out in Tech unites the LGBTQ+ tech community. We do this by creating opportunities for our members to advance their careers, grow their networks, and leverage tech for social change.”
Out In Tech’s Qorporate Job Board has more than 300+ job postings as of writing this article, which you can access by clicking here.
Out In Tech also facilitates an impressive Slack community. My coaching clients who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community have found the channels incredibly helpful in finding jobs in tech.
SquadJobs is another great job search platform for those in the tech industry who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Not only does the community boast 100,000+ LGBTQ women, trans, and non-binary techies, but they’re also the group Lesbians Who Tech & Allies’ exclusive hiring partner.
If this isn’t enough motivation to check out the job search engine, according to its website, “SquadJobs connects badass techies to direct referrals at inclusive companies.” They claim to do this via “internal champions,” so you don’t have to.
Next up on the list of best LGBTQ+ job sites is Gaingels, which claims to be “one of the largest job boards in venture capital.”
According to its website, “Gaingels is an LGBTQIA+/Allies private investment syndicate, and one of the largest and most active private investors dedicated to supporting diversity and inclusion within the venture capital ecosystem.”
You can click here to search the syndicate’s job board, which boasts 9,000+ opportunities from 1,900+ companies. A cool feature of this LGBTQ+ job site is that you can search through available job opportunities by company stage (Seed, Series A, Growth, Public, etc.). You can also filter for jobs based on your skills.
If you’re looking for LGBTQ-friendly remote jobs, you’ll want to check out LGBTQ Remotely. According to the LGBTQ Remotely website, this is “Your gateway to the best LGBTQ-friendly remote jobs from the most inclusive remote companies in the world.”
You can click here to view LGBTQ Remotely’s job board. The site’s job postings tend to skew toward functions like backend programming, engineering, development, design, data, and product, which is great if you’re looking to land a job in tech.
5. Pink Jobs
Candidly, I wrestled with whether to include Pink Jobs on this list.
On the one hand, Pink Jobs claims to be “The world’s largest equal opportunity focused job board” and is 100% free, like all the other entries on this list.
On the other hand, it’s unclear how — or even if — opportunities are vetted for LGBTQ-friendless before being posted. In fact, the site claims, “Many other recruitment boards like http://www.reed.co.uk/ have similar listings, and if you are just browsing for general jobs then these sites may help you find one quicker, but we do want, and believe, this site can help some individuals and companies get a great candidate in a great role.”
You can click here to view Pink Jobs, but you will need to conduct your due diligence as you learn about companies. (I share articles for vetting companies at the end of this article.)
Because of my background in higher education and nonprofit administration, I also coach a lot of social impact leaders and want to include a job board for those who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Funders for LGBTQ Issues has a jobs board, which you can click here to access, that markets available job opportunities in the philanthropic sector. The websites include roles from both their members (a network of 75+ foundations, corporations, and funding institutions) and the general community.
According to Funders for LGBTQ Issues, you’ll only find positions from “foundations, philanthropy serving organizations (PSO), or other organizations that conduct grantmaking” on the website.
While not marketed exclusively for LGBTQ+ professionals, Diversify Tech is “a job board where companies are transparent about their Diversity & Inclusion efforts,” so I wanted to include it on this list of search sites.
As of writing this article, there weren’t a ton of job postings on the Diversify Tech Board, which you can click here to view, but the ones listed were of high quality.
